Tennis fans turned out on Sunday 3rd July at Blackthorn Village Hall to watch Nadal play Jock. in the
2011 men’s finals. The hall was turned into a mini Wimbledon with purple and green banners adorning
the walls and tables. Even the drinks coasters were designed as tennis balls for the occasion.
Pimms flowed as the match got under way and even the passersby that had planned to stay for short time stayed for more than the odd glass or two. The children watched the match but soon found that playing tennis was better than watching so disappeared off to the park, but not before they had enticed some pocket money from mum or Grandm to buy the Strawberries on offer.
Laughing happily they ran off with bowls overflowing with the red berries leaving the grown-ups to watch Jock. beat Nadal!
